Mix + Match: Girly Victorian Vintage

Girly Victorian Vintage can be achieved by combining floral prints, a feminine color palette, vintage glassware pieces, and a mix and match of modern + vintage furniture pieces - just like in these examples

The color palette that is usually seen in floral prints is always refreshing - soft or bold, it always seems to be delightfully blended. There is no exception with designer guilds new spring collection 2012, kimono blossom fabrics and kasuri fabrics.
Isn't it such a delightful look?! Ahhh, I love. But ok, maybe some of you are thinking it might be a little difficult to incorporate this look in your living room - because of the man in the house. Well the good news is, it's definitely achievable in your home as a whole. By simply adding a few girly victorian pieces - like thisthisthis, or oh, yes that - in your space, you can softly incorporate a feminine touch that will bring out the Audrey Hepburn in you - and let's face it, we all love us some Audrey.

POPPING UP: Yellow

It's not a secret that yellow is one of my favorite colors - it was the main color in my wedding and the color of my bedroom for many years growing up. And yes, it's true -  colorS because it's way too hard to have just one favorite color. Am I alone on this?!

I've been pleasantly surprised to see yellow popping up - mostly in fashion, but now definitely being noticed in interiors. It's like a domino effect, once it hits fashion - it then starts showing up in interiors, or vice versa.  Notice the pieces from the shop? We're trending!

I would suggest to always implement colors in your home or wardrobe that you are naturally attracted to - don't make yourself like a color just because it's "in style".  It will be out of style before your comfortable with the shade + besides you want to surround yourself with the colors that make you happy or at peace. Colors definitely do have an affect on your mood, but not in a mood ring kind of way - remember those? They were strange... but i definitely had one, and wore it.
Yellow is one of those happy colors for me. It puts a smile on my face! And by the way, y'all have got to check out more goods from Found - item # 7 - is from. Found is a design store in Miami founded by the coolest trio team of a mother and her two daughters - their speciality? up-cycled vintage furniture that they transform into masterpieces - check it

Featured Find: Bolga Basket

With last weeks Mix + Match post on Bohemian Flair - I thought it only appropriate for the featured find this week to be the Bolga Baskets.  Bold colors + tribal patterns make these baskets a perfect addition to bring cultural richness inside your space.
The bolga baskets are handwoven from local artisans in the Bolga region of Ghana, Africa - we love supporting local artisans around the world.   Elephant grass is used to create these crafted goods and it allows the baskets to be easily reshaped - just rinse with water, reshape to desired form, and let it dry in the sunlight. The handle is fastened around a ring - making it easy to hold, and the genuine leather makes for a comfortable grip - the hand craftsmanship is truly exquisite and something hard to find in our modern times.
The baskets are great to use for storage - in your living room for dvd's, outside for poolside activities, in bathrooms for washcloths, in bedrooms for odds and ends. They are even nice to bring to the local market to hold your fresh produce. We adore the bright colors + the story behind these goods, and we couldn't be happier to share them with you! And why not go ahead and take a look at what else we have in the shop!

WEEKEND: Wanderer

During the week, ya gotta be on point + so that's why it's nice to use the weekend to wander.
You know - cruising down the streets with no exact destination.  Simply the best

INSPIRATION: OUTDOOR MARKET

Today I wanted to share a little of what I consider to be major inspiration - outdoor markets! These are snapshots from a few years back when I went to the Naschmarkt in Vienna, Austria-  it's so good, it even made the love list. The Naschmarkt came to be in the 16th century + it was love at first sight!
The smell of the fresh dishes being cooked, the texture of unusual fruits, the sound of the hustle and bustle, and the sight of some of the most thrilling colors - it's sensory overload - in a really wonderful kind of way.

The most beautiful and unexpected colors are always found in nature - coincidental? I think not! So why not go and scout out a local food market this weekend, and take a walk around - you're sure to be inspired!

Mix + Match : BOHEMIAN FLAIR

Mixing modern + vintage is a design concept that is never going to fade. There is such a wide range of mixing up the two to create different feels. You could put modern hues on painted walls in a room filled with antiques - you could mix vintage finds on a modern coffee table - you could use vintage textiles on modern pieces of furniture - really the options are endless. The outcome is always fresh and appealing because everyone's version is different, which is why this look will always be in.

So when you mix modern + vintage looks within your home - your pulling ideas from a style that is your own.  I've been really inspired by bohemian flair lately - i'm talking tribal prints and bold colors.  I adore this inviting dining area - it's relaxed, simple, and has just enough flair!
Maybe you favor more traditional, or maybe you like a sleek minimal look, or maybe one of these looks from my boards - at least one thing is the same, it's still a mix of the old added with the new. I'll be spotlighting different looks in this column, Mix and Match - and show you easy ways to achieve the featured look.

HAPPY DAYS

In search of inspiration - I've scouted out some vintage shops in Austin. There is so much inspiration to be found in vintage design. Even the colors and patterns in the clothing - like the ones dancing behind the lettering below-  I could get lost in it all...
Recently I hit up a couple of shops on the East side of town + took a few instagrams to share with you! One spot I checked out was Hog Wild, and wild it was! Going into this shop, I really felt like I was being transported back to the 60s/70s era - I'm talking an episode of "Happy Days".
The beauty of vintage is taking the gems amongst them all and putting them into your modern home. This transforms the piece from something overlooked to a key statement piece, and it gives your home a story with touches of character.  An easy way to start implementing vintage pieces in your home is starting with glassware - little cocktail glasses or mugs. It somehow makes your beverage taste that much better!

FEATURED FIND: SECRET GARDEN CHANDELIER

Well, hello there - I hope you enjoyed your weekend! This weekend ended with nice spring-like
weather here in Austin, and it left me craving warmer weather and lots of sunshine. To fill the void
of spring cravings + botanical blooms, our featured find today from the shop is the Secret Garden
    Chandelier
This hanging artwork is known as a Tole Chandelier, that is handcrafted from metal, and is a petite
masterpiece.  Tole Chandeliers range from 10" - 18" in diameter, and our Secret Garden Chandelier
is the more favorable and sought after 18" of excellent proportions + scale for any room.
There are three types of tole chandeliers, Italian, French, and Greek, that can be distinguished by their
design, and this floral design is one of an Italian artisan dating back to the 1940s. Hand-painted buds
and swooping vines give an appealing, organic shape and a touch of whimsy that's needed in every
   home.

WEEKEND: MARDI GRAS

I hope everyone enjoys their weekend! I'll be thinking of home this Mardi Gras weekend + so
to get me in the festive groove, I found these fun images. Aren't they grand?
It's the 1907 Rex Parade in New Orleans on Canal Street - amazing how much tradition is behind
this flavorful city! And that trio of friends, they really get me.  They seem like they're a real hoot
Sending extra love to family and friends back in Louisiana, who will be living it up this weekend
Mardi Gras style! I hope to smell the crawfish all the way over here in Austin!

POPPING UP: Orange

It's always a thrill seeing new trends come about in fashion and interiors, usually simultaneously. Maybe it's the urge to pull out those bold colors for the summer that seems to be right around the corner, but nonetheless - Orange has been popping up everywhere!
Bright accents to liven up your space or your wardrobe - just a touch of orange seems to do the trick.

Vibrant and bold - add a little spice to your life!
Yea, we got you covered in the shop - the orange delights above can be found at Magpie Fields!

UPCYCLED: living room couch

I've been so lucky to inherit this charming couch that once sat in my Mimi's formal room. The frame
on the couch has been one of my all time favorites + I adored her choice of ruby red fabric. After a
busted water pipe drenched the seat cushions, it was now time for me to face the facts - it needed a
  makeover
Coming back home from living in Prague, I began working on a project for a dear friend, and it got
me thinking about my own neglected treasure. I went and pulled this bad boy out of storage and got
to searching for fitting fabrics. Above, is a selection I came across early in my search - I was drawn to
the metallics in the cream, but it was a bit too formal for me.
I kept an eye out, but it wasn't until after moving home from Miami that we actually needed a
couch for our next apartment - I knew it was time to get moving on this makeover. I went with a
classic fabric for the cushion covering, like this one I had previously used for chairs.  Now, I'll be
able to change it up with different accent pillows throughout its lifetime.  I love our playful couch -
mixed with our quirky new + old collected pieces. It makes me smile

FEATURED FIND: PARISIAN QUADRANT

With the shop doors recently opening, what better time would it be to add a little structure to the ole blog?  A new column that will roll on the blog will be "Featured Find".  The column will showcase one of our favorite pieces from the shop and reveal a bit more of the history behind the selected piece.

With Valentine's Day right in our midst, the first featured find is the classy, feminine Parisian Quadrant.
I can't get enough of the soft pink shade of this Depression glass piece - The type of glassware was known to be made of translucent or colored glass and it was highly distributed around the time of the Great Depression - note the name depression glass.

The bold pattern in the glass is called "Sunburst" and was one of the fourteen designs created by the Jeannette Glass company in the USA.  The fancy brass holder adds an extra special design element to this featured find; don't ya think?
The perfect juxtapose match is found in the design combination of the delicate details and the bold sunburst pattern. Oui, Oui we love the Parisian Quadrant!

Yes, We're Open!

It's official, the shop is open! We're taking off, and ready to bring the beauties of this world to your front door. Go ahead, check it out!
