I LIKE YOU TOGETHER: COLOR

Color is so intriguing, especially in unexpected color combos.  It's like a breath of fresh air.

I was drawn to the image of this outfit on Pinterest - simply because of the colors.  So beautiful - lively - and unexpected, and I realized the same color combos have been seen in the shop. No wonder they caught my eye!
I really feel like this gal would really dig the wise old owl bookends and colorful reads as well as this felt flag. She seems like the trendy type - ya know, the owls on her bookshelf with all of her travel, art, + fashion books mixed with some classics...a few felt flags pinned up randomly in her loft. Yea, her style is spot on. She's probably an editor - a fashion editor, that is constantly inspired by her surroundings and never leaves her loft without her lips glossed in the perfect shade of rouge. I like her story.

MIX + MATCH: RUSTIC CHATEAU

What a dream. I'm not sure if it's the Scandinavian influence that is drawing me in or the gypsy-like effortlessness that screams beauty, but I could definitely live in a space like this. I've always been drawn to simple all white spaces like that of Scandinavian design, and have also in the past few years rapidly grown a love for quirky gypsy bits.

Nevertheless, what pulls my heart strings the most is the "mix and match" of modern and vintage. The look this week is what I like to call "Rustic Chateau". It's the modern version of shabby chic, because lets all admit, that has totally been overplayed.  Rustic chateau is where it's at because it brings us into modern times by including modern accents!
I could totally see this being placed on that vanity, and this to be added to the jewelry collection. Oh, and you know what would be perfect on that coffee table? This guy.

This look is blended so beautifully, that it's hard to see the modern aspects of the design - but that's what makes it SO good. The femininely rustic vintage chairs and vanity are balanced with the beautiful vintage chandelier.  The blend of modern is seen with the coffee table, the slipcovered couch, the modern art, those trendy jewels + perfumes, and of course, the crisp white walls. Simple and beautiful - this rustic chateau look is spot on.

FEATURED FIND: PAINTED FIXTURES

We've added strokes of color to these vintage 1960s aluminum fixtures to brighten up your day and your space! One-of-a-kind Magpie Fields exclusive, these metal light fixtures were rescued from an old motorcycle shop. Reshaped - refinished- rewired - and then redefined with bursts of color and added to our lighting collection
The sleek shape couldn't be overlooked and now with the splashes of color - each is truly a unique piece and original piece of art.  We can't get enough of this reclaimed collection - a colorful series for the live-out-loud spaces and metallic glam for the chic at heart. When they're gone, they're gone for good my friends...

ALL ABOUT THE SOUKS

The new issue of Lonny hit the web-o-sphere yesterday, and it's a beauty! One of my favorite features in this issue was the coverage from their adventures in the souks of Marrakech, Morocco.
The unbelievably lush textiles and vibrant colors only lead you to wonder of the smells and sounds of the bustling market.
As if the city wasn't enticing enough, Lonny made it even more so.
Hop on over and check out all the beautiful snap shots and other goods (especially my gal pal Elizabeth Mollen's Austin based design studio, Stone Textile featured on page 44) in this May issue!

I LIKE YOUR STYLE: Vintage Modern

As I was doing a little web browsing last night, I came across this look at Zara. These basics are a spot-on combo of classic meets trendy. Rarely do I ever like the complete look that is given in a lookbook or on a store mannequin - but this one got me.

By adding a few accessories to these basics, you can create multiple different styles. This is where I would take this ensemble; vintage modern.
Don't you love accessories that POP?! Yeah, me too.

A few pops of color: a one-of-a-kind vintage necklace, trendy clutch, vintage inspired shades, and a pair of go get 'em heels... and viola, you're ready to conquer the world, I mean day.

GETTING ARTSY WITH IT

I've been seeking out inspiration to do a few paintings for the house and came across this series of bold hues and rapid movement.
The color combos + movement work so well together - I could really get lost.
I dig.

TEA TIME TRADITION

The month of May, eh? It's here alright. The flowers will be blooming  - summer is upon us - and we will all give thanks to our moms and those influential female figures in our lives - it's a beautiful thing. I'm a pretty spontaneous gal but I do love a good tradition, and as I was being drawn to the colors in this vintage illustration it hit me - tea time tradition.  How about this mother's day, start a tradition for you and your mom - like a special tea time. How cute would that be?!
If you are far apart, keep a set and send the other to your mom. Schedule a time for your tea and enjoy tea through skype. Each of you can have the set to display in your home and think of that special time that you spend with each other! And if you live near each other - even better, give her both sets! She can display them throughout the year and pull them out to use on her special day.   What a sweet memory for you and mom!  We have this one and  that one in the shop to choose from as well as different mugs and cocktail glasses. Be sure to order your mother's day gifts soon because it's right around the corner!
