Magpie at Olive!

Huge thank you to Laura for having us last Friday at her amazing shop, Olive! It was a total blast hanging with Laura and Ebony and meeting new friends visiting Olive's new space and checking out MF goods for East End Fourth Friday! Thanks to all of those who stopped by to have a glass of bubbly with us!  

It was totally dreamy teaming up with Olive for a pop-up.  It was inspiring to see fashion and apothecary amidst all the home decor. (ps you will become addicted to this soap  - you've been warned!) 

I had such fun sprinkling MF moments around the Olive store - and I really enjoyed being in a modern space in such good company. Thanks again to all those who came out and to Laura - you're a gem!

Magpie Fields at Langford Market Austin, TX

I was fortunate to team up with the fabulous ladies behind Langford Market to host a pop-up shop during SXSW.  It was exciting to be in a new location in town and to meet people from all over the world.

Pop-ups are one of my favorite parts of the business. Being in a new space, meeting new people, styling the merchandise, and even the load to the unload to the load again - it's a rewarding experience that seriously drives me.  

I was so inspired by the people I met during the pop-up. Since it was during SXSW, it was a mix of creatives, entrepreneurs, and tech industry folks.  I was reminded we're here to all encourage one another and that's so refreshing! 

A big thanks to the Langford Market in Austin - it was a pleasure setting up shop and meeting all of you! The candy bar was fabulous - I think I have my sugar fix until...Easter.  

And of course huge thanks to all those who came out to say hello  - it's such a treat to see you!

Last Fall at Marburger Farm Antique Show, my talented friend, Larry, of Left&14th captured the set up and created space of Magpie Fields.  His photography brings a modern edge to something one might see as ordinary - he brings interest. 

 

Who knew set-up could be this inspiring? These days, we're so accustomed to seeing images of perfection. Whether in television, print, or web...everything is top-notch and not actual reality. With styling being such a focus on photography these days - seeing what actually is... is inspiring to me. 

Without the bells and whistles - the whole process from start to finish, is beautiful. It all can be appreciated.

EAST Austin Studio Tour

The EAST Austin Studio Tour took place the last two weekends in Austin. I was able to breakaway and visit about five different studios out of the 160.  It was utterly inspiring to see the talent of different Austin artists.

The Canopy studio really stuck out to me - I think it was my favorite. Keith Kreeger Pottery and Studio SloMo were two of the talents at Canopy.

We were thrilled to have a bit of Magpie Fields used in the styling of this beautiful wooden bed by DropHouse Design. The styling was done by Elizabeth Mollen of Stone Textile Studio; she used one of our handmade mud clothes to mix with her incredible textiles.  I totally dig this modern look she created.

Me and my good gal, Rachel, and her hubs, Larry (check out his photography!) really enjoyed EAST this year - although I wish I could have seen more, I'll take what I can get! Son of a Sailor has been a favorite artist of mine since discovering them and seeing their work space was a total treat - their use of color is amazing.

POP-UP: MOCKINGBIRD DOMESTICS

You've seen a lot of feed about our pop-up shop last week through wall posts, tweets, and snap shots and now its time to show you what all the hype was about. We popped up our shop at Mockingbird Domestics last week and mixed our vintage and upcycled goods with the modern designs of Stone Textile. 

Some of Stone Textile's pillows with our handmade African mudcloth - what a mix, eh?! 

Both, Elizabeth of Stone Textile, and myself built brands centered around the idea of mixing modern and vintage - so needless to say, it was refreshing to see our products mixed together. The Diamond Print Napkins were stacked high and goodies were for the taking; tape measures, tips + tricks, postcards, notebooks, and cute little bags of popcorn - goodies galore. We premiered so many of our latest finds - like our white and black letter "I" lights, Danish leather bound books, apothecary jars, a Swedish black and white storage bin, and a cute little retro clock that already found a new home. It was really exciting to see Stone Textile launch their stationery line the same day as the pop-up, check out those cards!

I really enjoyed branding the event. It's fun whipping something up for different events and happenings. 

Above was a cozy nook with some of our latest finds - one of the Rattan side tables (it's a pair) and a rattan magazine rack stacked with Stone Textile pillows and blanket along with our vintage Kilim pillow. Did you see the gorgeous chrome vintage Milo Baughman style chairs all freshly updated and gorgeous!? With the Tuxedo pillow it's a definite match - I know, I'm kind of in love. I'll be posting about the upcycling process of the set of 4 this week so stay tuned.

We had a ball + there was such a wonderful turnout for the event! Thank you all for coming out! A huge thanks to Tribeza + The Ruby Collaborative for promoting the event, Mockingbird Domestics for hosting us, and Stone Textile for working with us. We look forward to popping up more often! It's so nice to meet you all and present our latest finds.

Why: To say hello, to present our latest collections, suggest solutions to your design dilemmas, and present a beautiful blend of modern textiles with vintage wares!

Mockingbird Domestics has the most unique collection of goods - you might remember a little snippet from this post. Jeff and Laura Daly, are the founders and the husband and wife duo behind Mockingbird Domestics and it's unique concept. They house 75+ different Texas-based artist's and designer's goods in their store. The collection is beautifully curated and displayed so well throughout the store - it's a feast for your eyes. The support from Mockingbird Domestics is incredible and the  Mockingbird Guild that they have created is truly something special.

And you guys, you should also take a look at some of Stone Textile Studio's exquisite designs - my friend Elizabeth, the founder and designer, is so talented. You might remember me posting about their latest pillow collection here. They will be launching a brand new stationery collection on Tuesday to coincide with the pop-up shop!

GETTING SCHOOLED: blogshop + video class

Hi there everybody! Hope you all had a lovely holiday and have had a wonderful start to the new year. The new year has started off with a bang, and honestly I think it snuck up on me!

When January 1 came along, I was so excited for what was to come in the new year and my focus immediately shifted to the first event I had on the agenda - blogshop.

Most of you know, I attended blogshop last year and have had nothing but great things to say about the course - so this year, I didn't want to miss out on the fun and was able to help out during the course and also was asked to have our tote bags as part of the takeaways - yay!!

It was incredible - the passion behind the two founders of the workshop, bri from DesignLoveFest and angela from Angela and Ithyle, is infectious, and being in a room full of creatives is exhilarating. I left completely inspired and completely exhausted (i'm not sure how they teach so many courses!!).  Everyone loved the smilebooth during the breaks. Caught in the middle - bri, me, sara, and angela - always loads of fun to have a photobooth on site!

Following blogshop was the video class the gals just added to their classes - I jumped on board and signed up for the class. I really think video is where the internet is heading and I want to be able to capture the moments when I'm at market and fixing up the goods for the shop.  I learned there is a LOT that goes behind a good video - what a great tool to have learned. I hope to add a few here and there! At the video class - our popular collected keys were part of the takeaway - loved how they captured them in the shot below!

Since blogshop + the video class, I have been catching up with planning - lots of great things in the works for the new year! Now being back on track, I think my new year will start officially on Feb 1. or maybe even today...it's funny how we put rules on when things should start - afterall, everyday is a new day! I'm excited to share whats to come in the next year... and I'm so blessed to have all of your support. Thank you, thank you!! It's good to be back! xo, e

Spreading the Love: STONE TEXTILE STUDIO

I was lucky enough to meet the talented designer + founder behind Stone Textile Studio, Elizabeth Mollen, last year at the Austin blogshop.  Elizabeth recently celebrated the first year of her rapidly growing textile business by launching her second collection of original textile designs this past week!

Stone Textile's vintage inspired, modern designs are a perfect blend of textures and bold geometric patterns. I've given a set of these beautiful cloth napkins as a gift, and they were instantly adored!

Also, we want to give a big thank you to Elizabeth for having us as a part of the Stone Textile Look Book collaboration. We were honored! 

That's right, those are our very own Saints Speckled Set. Aren't they fabulous in this setting? Love!!

Creative Crush: ALYSON FOX

I love living in a city filled with small business owners and creatives that encourage, inspire, and motivate one another - Austin and it's creatives are nothing short of amazing. I'm so grateful to be part of a creative group known as The Ruby - started by Chelsea of Go Forth, Ana of Grown-up Shoes, and Candice of Oh! FOX Vintage.

Last week you might have noticed, The Ruby put together a special evening event featuring Alyson Fox that was held at Kick Pleat.  Alyson is a multi-talented artist that is on my creative crush list and I'm sure yours as well.

That evening, we all gathered in the trendy Kick Pleat boutique (check out that fabulous chair and rug), chatted with local creatives, made a fun take-away piece of jewelry with geometric beads, and listened intently at Alyson's story.  Alyson blew me away with her warm nature, and honesty.  Her work and spirit are reflective of one another - she was such an inspiration.

She has most recently collaborated with West Elm and has a unique line of products out for this Fall. If you haven't checked it out - you definitely should. This pillow is my favorite.

Spreading the love: MOCKINGBIRD DOMESTICS

There is a new home decor store, Mockingbird Domestics, that has recently opened in South Austin with a unique concept of featuring Texas artisans under one umbrella, Mockingbird Guild.

Each piece available at the store has a story, allowing customers to tell their own story. Blending modern, vintage, industrial, and global goods in their displays, Mockingbird Domestics has it all.  I've been anticipating my first visit ever since they opened their doors.  As I entered the store, I was warmly greeted and offered a cup of coffee - I felt instantly at home.  

The concept behind Mockingbird Domestics is to partner with Texas artisans to provide well-crafted home decor.  I'm so thrilled to announce that Magpie Fields is now part of the Mockingbird Domestics Guild! You will find Magpie Fields lighting, hardware, and textiles within the store. We couldn't be more excited about collaborating with the incredibly talented Mockingbird Domestics Guild. 

So with that exciting news being said, if you haven't had a chance to swing by Mockingbird Domestics and are in the Austin area, you definitely should.  

It's a one-of-a-kind home decor store and there is no doubt you will find much to please!

HOT OFF THE PRESS: TRIBEZA

WOO HOO! If you haven't heard from this or that, let me fill you on some fantastic news!  The always incredible Tribeza magazine has spotlighted Magpie Fields in the Exposed article of this September Style Issue! It's so exciting to see Magpie Fields getting noticed by sources whose work I truly admire - Tribeza always delivers in content, photography, and design.

Tribeza will have the September issue on their site soon where you will be able to find the full digital issue - along with past issues, and if you're in the ATX area, you can swing by and pick one up...for free. Great opportunities have mysteriously opened themselves up, and I'm humbled at how God is molding this young business. I couldn't be more thrilled to be on this journey and seeing it progress and develop daily right before my eyes.  I thank you all for your love, support, and kind words (especially my husband who encouraged me to begin this journey and who has to deal with it all) - each piece of encouragement I hold near to my heart.  With your help, I know Magpie Fields will become a solid platform for our mission: green living, global impact, and giving back. So what do you ya say? KNOCK, KNOCK

If y'all didn't know this lil' tidbit yet, I'm highly in love with doors  (old ones, you know the ones with lots of character) + I get so excited when I see one that catches my eye. It's usually a *gasp* ..."oh my gosh did you see that!" kinda moment.

So I decided to start photographing doors of inspiration because I just had to share - its like I was trying to hold in a secret, a good one + that's no fun!  Walking around downtown Austin, I came across these...

Sometimes it's the shape, sometimes the detailing, and sometimes the color - there is no rhyme or reason, I'm just drawn to it - see what I mean. Aren't they swell?!

I just adore the traditional style of these masculine doors with the feminine ironwork - and the real kicker is the popping oceanic colors - - c'mon...soooo good!
