Why: To say hello, to present our latest collections, suggest solutions to your design dilemmas, and present a beautiful blend of modern textiles with vintage wares!

Mockingbird Domestics has the most unique collection of goods - you might remember a little snippet from this post. Jeff and Laura Daly, are the founders and the husband and wife duo behind Mockingbird Domestics and it's unique concept. They house 75+ different Texas-based artist's and designer's goods in their store. The collection is beautifully curated and displayed so well throughout the store - it's a feast for your eyes. The support from Mockingbird Domestics is incredible and the  Mockingbird Guild that they have created is truly something special.

And you guys, you should also take a look at some of Stone Textile Studio's exquisite designs - my friend Elizabeth, the founder and designer, is so talented. You might remember me posting about their latest pillow collection here. They will be launching a brand new stationery collection on Tuesday to coincide with the pop-up shop!

Inspiration in: MARFA, TX

The mister and I recently went out west to find inspiration galore. Final Destination? White Sands National Park First Stop? Marfa, TX.   I'm excited to share today pictures from our first stop in Marfa - and what a unique little town it was.

Marfa was a quirky in many ways, and it reminded me of Austin - like this painting, which is seen off of South Congress in Austin as well as off the main drag in Marfa.

This small town was noted to be popularized by artist, Donald Judd, in the late 70's.  He was a minimalist and to escape the hustle and bustle of New York City, he bought desert land in Marfa to create standing-to-this-day masterpieces.

Marfa seems to be an international meeting spot for creatives. From Denmark to California, and all cities in between - we met people - some artist and some not - who come to "meet up" and hang out in this small desert town of west Texas.

One of the highlights of the trip was staying at El Cosmico. The creator behind this gem is Liz Lambert - the same creative genius behind the Hotel San Jose,  Hotel Saint Cecilia, and multiple locations of Jo's coffee house.  El Cosmico is a pristine and well designed lot of vintage airstreams, teepees, and area to pitch tents. It was like living life in back in the day - but in modern day style... an experience that can't be beat.

We were lucky enough to snag the "Kozy Couch" for the night and it was cozy indeed. With the sounds of the night and light breeze streaming through the windows - it was tranquil and quite relaxing.  After one night, I was convinced Magpie Fields would need an airstream for the adventures of flea marketing on the US roadways. Right??

By now your probably packing your bags for a trip out to west Texas - and I don't blame you.  The sometimes forgotten land of west Texas, has much to explore.  Go!

Itty Bitty Towns: Wimberley + Gruene

Last week consisted of some half work days/half exploration days - it was lovely! My hubs had a few days off from work for spring break, so we took full advantage decided to explore some of the smaller towns of Texas - full of character, and a completely different way of life.  It was all about enjoying the small things in life, and slowing down to appreciate it all. You might have noticed some earlier pics from our lil trip here or here! 

First stop, Wimberley, TX - Itty bitty town with a strip of small shops (antiques and new items) that sits behind a quaint creek. The folks of the town like to call this town a "bit of heaven". 

I loved the pop art of this vintage parrot tray and the colors in this vintage kilim rug - so, so good.  Oh, and my new obsession? Arrows.

Second stop, was Gruene, TX - more shops, winery, and home of the oldest dance hall in Texas, Gruene Hall (seen top left with picture of Lyle Lovett - this guy got his start here). The day we went the winery was having a promo event with free wine tasting + food pairings. We sat outside around wooden barrels while listening to a string duo -  fancy! 

The town was full of little inns; the one at the top right had an underground house - hmmm, and even more they were prepping the new soil of the grass with cow compost....it definitely smelled like the 

coun-tray. 

The colors, sights, and quiet sounds of these two small towns were a nice change from the hustle and bustle of Austin. I like the feeling of stepping back in time - seeing old type, colors, and walking through the times of the "good ole days" every once in a while. Try it, it's very inspiring + refreshing!

WIRED IN MIAMI

These two art installations were up while I was living in Miami - a city that is boldly breaking in the art and design scene. Both installations featured metal wire medium created spaces or objects of a certain space, amazing hand crafted goodness!

 The top image was snapped while walking through the Lincoln Road Art Center - a collective unit of Miami creatives' workspaces. And the second image, the one I could stare at all day and still be in awe, was taken at the vibing Wynwood district.  

If you go to Miami, and haven't visited this area you must go - in my opinion its better than the more popular design district (not that the design district isn't swell in it's own right)!  It's on the edge and unlike any other part of Miami - art walks, sidewalk/sidewall art, a pool of inspiration - once discovered, it's going to be destination hot spot. 

Berlin finds...

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to go to Berlin for the weekend.  Boy, did I ever fall in love.  There are so many great things about Berlin, especially for design fanatics and french food lovers.  I found so many great design and interior stores in Berlin and was fairly surprised  by it.  I guess, I missed the known fact that Berlin is the "up and coming design capital of the world".  Well, that's what some claim, and frankly, I can see why. Let me share with you the best of Berlin's kept secrets...

This little shop makes me dizzy! It's an "oh my gosh" kind of shop for me. This retro inspired store brings back patterns and designs from yesteryear.  This store features popular kitsch brands such as pip studio and cath kidston, and also other brands such as clayre and eef as well as house doctor. A must-see in my books!

This kitchen store caught my eye with their lovely holiday decor. What a wonderful way to incorporate color and fun to an ordinary cereal bowl display.

Unfortunately I came across this shop on a Sunday, in which it was closed.  From the looks of it, its a vintage shop that handles clothing, shoes, accessories, and furniture.  I see it as an upscale vintage gem.

This store of modern design carries products similar to those you might find in a MoMa shop, but with gadgets and gizmos galore it's even better.  Products of a particular function used to make a product of another function all in a sleek design. What more could you want?

This cute little corner cafe has much to offer.  It seemed to be a local hotspot with its packed out tables of Berlin-ers coming in for their Sunday brunch. Served here? French cuisine - simply put, Meat or cheese tray, a basket of yummy sliced baguettes, and a cafe au late on the side. Atmosphere? Chill. Those who rolled out of bed just to drag themselves down the road to their favorite Sunday brunch joint, which happens to be an adorable french cafe.

Interior: hipster paper lanterns strung from a rope, old wooden furniture, and  a nicely selected sage wall color makes for a pleasant atmosphere.

french cuisine: meat and cheese tray accompanied by sliced baguettes and a cafe au late.

Delightful.

A daily selected menu of french cuisine. Three courses and three options, with one fixed low price.  Only a few tables in this little restaurant, but it  serves as a cozy little nook. We happened to pass by and it looked so inviting we decided to pop in just in time to snag a vacant table. There was only a staff of two the night we went, one cook and one waiter/greeter/etc, who happened to be the owner, and yes, he is French. Some of the nicest people doing what they love, loving what they do, and doing it to perfection.
