FEATURED FIND: PLEASANTVILLE TRAY

Happy Friday friends!

I wanted to send you all off this weekend loaded with inspiration from this week's "feature find" selected from the shop.  This weeks feature is the newly added Pleasantville Tray - This mid-century beauty has a quirky illustration hand painted with a soothing color palette. The piece is signed by the artist, C.P. Meter, and is in pristine condition - it's quite the find!
Don't you love the cut-out geometric shapes along the edge with the flash of gold paint?! I really just want to be a a part of that mariachi band - well i'm saying it's mariachi, but who really knows.
So if your in love with this tray as much as I am, but are thinking - "How would I use that in my space besides displaying it on the wall as art?". Well, I'm glad you asked because there are a world of options for this tray or any tray that fits your fancy - take a look at a handful of ideas below.

BAMBOO UP-CYCLED

Remember when I told you about that exciting find I found for a wedding project? Well, today I get to reveal the goods! I was asked by a client, which this time happened to be my lovely mother-in-law, to find the perfect wedding gift for a couple that is very dear to her, and also my husband and I. Needless to say, this was a very special project indeed!

Initially, she thought about a tumbler set - you know the fabulous highball sets that come with the brass holder? Well, little did we know we would be greeted by an unexpected surprise. I came across this unique bamboo piece and immediately I sent her a picture (the one below) in hopes she would think the same. I just knew it could be turned into such a delight + she was quick to agree. The vision? A modern lacquered cocktail corner...here is a before + after shot!
It was THE combination we were looking for - feminine in shape but masculine in texture; rich vintage history but trendy modern aesthetic, an edgy unexpected delight that would satisfy the traditionalist at heart...I mean, we struck gold! I'm so glad I could finally share this piece with you - it's just so good!

Once the piece arrived safe and sound in New Orleans, she was so kind and sent me some snap shots of her ideas - so creative and thoughtful! Don't you love the glass on top?! It was certainly a pleasure + inspiration working with her- thank you! xo

Packaged + sent with love - and a little canvas tote of birdseed:)

KNOCK, KNOCK

If y'all didn't know this lil' tidbit yet, I'm highly in love with doors  (old ones, you know the ones with lots of character) + I get so excited when I see one that catches my eye. It's usually a *gasp* ..."oh my gosh did you see that!" kinda moment.

So I decided to start photographing doors of inspiration because I just had to share - its like I was trying to hold in a secret, a good one + that's no fun!  Walking around downtown Austin, I came across these...
Sometimes it's the shape, sometimes the detailing, and sometimes the color - there is no rhyme or reason, I'm just drawn to it - see what I mean. Aren't they swell?!

I just adore the traditional style of these masculine doors with the feminine ironwork - and the real kicker is the popping oceanic colors - - c'mon...soooo good!
So happy Friday friends - go out + enjoy your weekend! xo

COLLECTED

They've been picked and spruced up just for you! Take a look on over at the shop of the newly added found goods + curate your collection. Fresh colors just in time for Spring!

Itty Bitty Towns: Wimberley + Gruene

Last week consisted of some half work days/half exploration days - it was lovely! My hubs had a few days off from work for spring break, so we took full advantage decided to explore some of the smaller towns of Texas - full of character, and a completely different way of life.  It was all about enjoying the small things in life, and slowing down to appreciate it all. You might have noticed some earlier pics from our lil trip here or here
First stop, Wimberley, TX - Itty bitty town with a strip of small shops (antiques and new items) that sits behind a quaint creek. The folks of the town like to call this town a "bit of heaven".

I loved the pop art of this vintage parrot tray and the colors in this vintage kilim rug - so, so good.  Oh, and my new obsession? Arrows.
Second stop, was Gruene, TX - more shops, winery, and home of the oldest dance hall in Texas, Gruene Hall (seen top left with picture of Lyle Lovett - this guy got his start here). The day we went the winery was having a promo event with free wine tasting + food pairings. We sat outside around wooden barrels while listening to a string duo -  fancy

The town was full of little inns; the one at the top right had an underground house - hmmm, and even more they were prepping the new soil of the grass with cow compost....it definitely smelled like the
coun-tray.

The colors, sights, and quiet sounds of these two small towns were a nice change from the hustle and bustle of Austin. I like the feeling of stepping back in time - seeing old type, colors, and walking through the times of the "good ole days" every once in a while. Try it, it's very inspiring + refreshing!

WEEKEND: FREEDOM

Here's to the weekend friends...
... and all of it's freedom!
Enjoy - xo

WIRED IN MIAMI

These two art installations were up while I was living in Miami - a city that is boldly breaking in the art and design scene. Both installations featured metal wire medium created spaces or objects of a certain space, amazing hand crafted goodness!
The top image was snapped while walking through the Lincoln Road Art Center - a collective unit of Miami creatives' workspaces. And the second image, the one I could stare at all day and still be in awe, was taken at the vibing Wynwood district.

If you go to Miami, and haven't visited this area you must go - in my opinion its better than the more popular design district (not that the design district isn't swell in it's own right)!  It's on the edge and unlike any other part of Miami - art walks, sidewalk/sidewall art, a pool of inspiration - once discovered, it's going to be destination hot spot.

It Reminds Me

After coming across this tile, I had to pin it - it's so very inspiring to me. The soothing color palette reminded me of the gorgeous Mediterranean Sea, and the Moroccan design only further reminded me of the million reasons why Morocco is on my top ten list of cities to explore.
So with the inspiration from this above tile striking me this morning, I was reminded of the amazing tiles I came across during my time in Barcelona. I went digging through my image archives and came across these favorites...
And check out these next tiles, they are from Mosaic House in NYC - such a great selection to choose from. I was drawn to the design and color palette of these - what an escape!

FEATURED FIND: Cigar Cloths

Cigar cloths also known as tobacco flannels were advertisement premiums used by tobacco companies in the early 20th century and was considered a hot trend between 1910-1915. The idea of using textiles as advertisement inserts was very common during this time - to entice customers and also to encourage women to purchase tobacco products.
These individual pieces of art were found at the Lincoln Road Antiques + Collectibles show in Miami, from a vendor who knew of their worth and potential. As modern design, these would be oh-so-unique pieces of art hung in any room - framed together, or individually as a series, or simply a stand alone, these pieces are fab + sure to make a statement in your space.

MIX + MATCH: Vintage Modern Pop

This eclectic look is absolute perfection in my eyes. This Parisian abode belongs to Josephine who describes her take on design as a "contrast between German minimalism and French exuberance" - which brings us to this Vintage Modern Pop look. Not only does Josephine find balance between simplicity and luxury - she masters blending in vintage finds with modern design.
The white walls and french doors make for an open and breezy blank canvas - a dream to any creative like-mind. She really takes advantage of this space by implementing in bold pops of color - which adds positive vibes to the space!
There are so many great elements that make this room unbelievable - the gorgeous vintage crystal chandelier hung above the reflective surface of the sleek metal farm table is juxtaposition at its best!
The SMEG appliances - pink refrigerator and red dishwasher- give a nod to vintage design while providing modern day conveniences.  Don't you love the retro red pendant or the old wooden bin to hold her cooking utensils? Check out the collection of vintage tins on top of the fridge and what about the modern art?! - I'm not sure what is exactly illustrated but it definitely ties in all of the colors and gives an eye-catching element of interest.
Perhaps my favorite aspect of this kitchen is the open shelves which showcases the beautiful collection of vintage china - stand alone art that is also functional, making every occasion around the table one to remember. I'm telling you - this is a dream, a real dream.

POPPING UP: COLOR BLOCKING

Have you noticed that color blocking is all over the fashion world. It is definitely a hot trend right now with it's mix of bold, bright colors!
I can't help but notice how color blocking was an interiors trend of the past  - and how it has slightly been showing back up in current interiors. I'm going to go ahead and say - that color blocking will soon be wildly seen in the modern interiors world. I can see it faintly fading from fashion and hitting home decor with a big bang- let's stay on the look out.
What's more fun than incorporating pops of bright + bold colors into your home or office. I'm on board this train - I can't seem to get enough color! And wow, can you get over that couch?! I can hardly stand it - vintage frame, plush velour textiles, + blending color palette, it's so so good.

FEATURED FIND: CUP-O-CHEER

Don't you love that first sip of coffee or tea in the morning? What's even better than that, is drinking your morning beverage from a mug that will put a smile on your face. The Cup-o-Cheer mugs in the shop, do just that to me.
These Fire King mugs were produced from the 1940s until somewhere in the 1980s by the Anchor Hocking company - the brand you can see marked on the bottom of the mugs.  This very durable line of dish-ware was originally produced for everyday use and was often sold in bags of flour as promotional items in it's beginning stages.
The dish line used many different patterns throughout it's production life, one being the gradient and luster version of the Kimberly pattern. This design was inspired by diamond mines in Africa mimicking a raw diamond ore - and hey, we sure like the sight of these diamonds!

OOZING INSPIRATION

Hi friends! Hope you all had a wonderful weekend! We went home this past weekend for my brother's wedding + what a beautiful wedding it was! It was a fun-filled packed weekend - decorating, celebrating, and then some! I couldn't be happier for my brother and my now sister - have fun in Hawaii :)
Let's get this week started with a bang! I have a lot of new finds and ideas brewing over here + I can't wait to share them with you! So cheers to this Monday + what I hope to be a productive week oozing with inspiration for everyone!

Weekend: Wedding Inspired

Happy Weekend Friends! We've made the trek back to Louisiana for the weekend. Not just for any ole visit but because my brother is getting married!!! I'm so excited for him and my sister-in-law to be. It's such an exciting time!

With the wedding this weekend - I wanted to leave you with a Magpie Fields bridal look featuring some of our jewelry pieces.  We've made an exclusive one-of-a-kind line within our jewelry selection at the shop, featuring carefully selected vintage brooches strung onto recycled Indian sari silk. We are in love with this collection. Feminine, fresh, and completely unexpected, the next modern bride staple.
This beautiful gown paired with bold stained lips + statement jewelry - it's a bridal look that's unmatched.  Don't you agree?
Which piece is your favorite? It's just so hard to choose.  And the best part about these jewels is they can be easily worn with an everyday outfit as well - something even as casual as jeans and a classic "t".  Just because you wear it on your special day, doesn't mean it has to be tucked away.

Enjoy the weekend!
